Unless I'm 100% broke as I am now, whenever I ask you that I'm also ready to dip hand inside my pocket & help.
When friends respond with, "I'm fine" to your "How are you?". "I'm fine" is often their way of saying, I'm not OK, but I don't want to border you. Probe further if you really cares.
