Twenty years before yours, my brother, - a non-swimmer with no life-jacket, almost drowned when the boat he was riding in (to a riverine town) capsized.
The young man struggled and struggled to almost no avail. According to him, when he was about to give up for death, his feet touched the solid botton of the river and he was "pushed" back to gulp the air of life.
My brother is 53 years now.
