At 35m (2022) users, Substack has less than 10% of Twitter's (2022) 450m subscribers. And out of Substack 35m subscribers, less than 1.5% (500,000) are paid subscribers. Substack revenue is a drop in the ocean of what Twitter earns annually. And Mastodon is a free open platform for users and freely supported by those who use it or host tjeir Mastodon instances.
I don't understand why anyone will be sniggering over Elon's wielding his sledgehammer to crush fledging alternative platforms that are operating opposite his model.
Maybe you need to tell me more.
Substack Notes is not even a standalone app like Twitter. Only active Substack writers know of & Substack Notes to promote their writings within Substack. I don't understand how Substack could have had a mass appeal to Twitter fans majority of who never read Substack newsletters.
It seems to me that it's Twitter that is trying to kill off competotion.
Also recall, Twitter was blocking Mastodon users' at first, (and Substack?) before Substack Notes emerged. So, who is trying to slaughter who?
Since I signed up to Mastodon, I've moved my profile to another instance and I'm OK with it.
Substack, Mastodon, & other SM models are not exactly the same as Twitter's & one does not need to kill the other to survive.
